dōTERRA® ESSENTIAL OIL FEATURED ON DOG WHISPERER WITH CESAR MILLAN

If you are still not convinced about dōTERRA® Essential Oils, then this article may help.  Dog lovers know Cesar Millan as the Dr. Phil of the dog world. Cesar's rehabilitations
of aggressive, scared, lazy, compulsive, and jealous dogs captured the national spotlight when his National Geographic Channel series Dog Whisperer first premiered in September, 2004.  Now in its eighth season, Dog Whisperer is capturing the hearts and minds of animal enthusiasts all around the world.

In a recent episode, Cesar, renowned dog behavior expert, helped an Australian Kelpie Cross overcome his fears by using relaxation techniques with dōTERRA’s Serenity Calming Blend.  The video clip http://doterrablog.com/page/2; shows the dramatic therapeutic effect that this essential oil has on animals (yes, it’s beneficial for
people and dogs!).

When someone as talented as Cesar Millan uses dōTERRA® Essential Oils on his dogs, isn’t it time your dog benefited from them!
Here are a few more examples that have been tried on dogs with positive results from www.EverythingdoTERRA.com and A Contemporary Guide to the Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils, by Abundant Health, AromaTools.com.

Some examles of use are:
*Purify and Eucalyptus for fleas (apply to coat and especially neck).
*Try Lemon, On Guard™ and Frankincense on the paws for cough.
*Apply a couple of drops of Balance or Serenity on the inside of ears for calming.
*Put a couple drops of Lavender in their shampoo to calm dogs during bathing.
*Use On Guard™ for “accidents” and urine odor (make a spray with purified water.)
*DigestZen™ for nausea and upset stomach (rub a couple drops on your hands and then on the stomach.)
*Apply a few drops of Purify Blended Oils or Lavender (rub a couple drops on your hands first) on scrapes and cuts.
*Deep Blue™ (diluted with fractionated coconut oil) for sore muscles.
*Frankincense for cancer to boost the immune system.
*Try Balance, Lavender & Serenity for anxiety/nervousness in a dog:

From a dōTERRA® Essential Oil User.

“One of our dogs has had seizures since she was a pup. She has been diagnosed with epilepsy.  I grabbed frankincense and lemongrass and rubbed a drop of each on each paw – in and around her toes.  The seizure immediately stopped!  I then gave her lavender which calmed her down.  We were both in awe the seizures stopped so quickly, especially after reaching the point of “no return!”  She slept peacefully through the night and is fine today, no nausea, no seizures.  I am very grateful for these oils.”
From a dōTERRA® Essential Oil User.

"I used On Guard™ for fungus on my
Standard Poodle.  I used a few drops
once per day.  It took one week for the
fungus to shrivel up to nothing, and it
was HUGE when I started.  She even
had some small ones starting on her face,
and those took only three days to dry up
into scabs.  My groomer was so impressed
that she signed up!”

*Never use essential oils on cats or kittens. Felines do not metabolize essential oils and they can be extremely toxic to their systems.

INTRODUCTION TO dōTERRA®
It was a great experience compiling the following hints from Everything dōTERRA.com and from the book, Modern Essentials, A Contemporary Guide to the Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils, by Abundant Health, AromaTools.com.  I do not claim to be a Holistic Vet nor do I practice treating animals except on my own dog. This booklet is an evolving process.  As I do more research and discover more “Tail Wagging Hints,” I will then add them to the suggestions listed in my booklet. This information is being provided from what I have read.  It is up to the guardian of the canine to use extreme caution when administering the oils.

Welcome to the World of dōTERRA® which means “Gift of the Earth.”  It offers a place where you can be in charge of your dog’s health and your own health at the same time.  Essential oils have been around for thousands of years.  They are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.  They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant.  If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils.  In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a role in plant pollination.

Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile organic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils.  Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin.  Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue.  In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits.  Modern scientific study and trends towards more holistic approaches to wellness are driving a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications.

dōTERRA (CPTG) Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils represent the safest, purest, and most beneficial essential oils available today.  They are gently and skillfully distilled from plants that have been patiently harvested at the perfect moment by experienced growers from around the world for ideal extract composition and efficacy.  Experienced essential oil users will immediately recognize dōTERRA's® superior quality standard for naturally safe, purely effective therapeutic-grade essential oils.
The DOs and DON’Ts of doTerra

From the book, “Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals,” by Kristen Leigh Bell, the following should be taken into account when treating a dog with essential oils:

The remedies for the canines were based on doTERRA Essential Oils because of their purity and they use 100% ingredients.  Do not use inferior quality oils on your dogs.  The information is solely based on dōTERRA® Essential Oils.

Always D I L U T E essential oils for use on dogs.  It is suggested that starting with 25% of the human dose, or a dose that is acceptable for a human toddler as stated in the book.

A Contemporary Guide to the Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils, by Abundant Health, AromaTools.com.  For every 30 drops of essential oils in 8 oz of shampoo or other base, or 10 drops of essential oils in ½ oz of carrier oil.

Avoid essential oils that are high in phenols and ketones – see the chart below:
Essential Oils: Birch, Cassia, Clove, Leaf/BudOregano, Thyme & Wintergreen

Note:  These are only a few of the essential oils that need to be avoided; the suggestions in the chart were based on essential oils that can be obtained from dōTERRA® exclusively.  If you would like more information on other essential oils to avoid, it would be wise for you to do your own research.

Only give essential oils internally as directed below.

When using the essential oils, please keep in mind that on smaller dogs you would use a less amount of oils as you would on a larger canine, so adjust your drops of oil accordingly.  Of course medium is in the middle

Do not use essential oils on puppies younger than eight weeks.
Avoid essential oils on small and toy breeds until after they turn ten weeks old.  Apply the smallest amount of essential oils until after they turn ten weeks old.

Introduce essential oils gradually and in small amounts.  Watch carefully for any indications that the dog is upset by the oil application.  Let your dog smell your hand first with the essential oil on it.

Dogs that are advanced in age, pregnant or ill it may be best to reduce the number of drops or sprites used when a dog’s health is compromised.

Never use peppermint, rosemary, melaleuca or eucalyptus on a pregnant dog.

Only a couple of drops of oil is necessary on a dog as they respond more quickly then do humans.

Epileptic and seizure-prone dogs are of a concern, the essential oil rosemary can influence the seizure activity in humans and this should be taken into account if using on a dog.

A dog can’t tell you how he feels; therefore, when in doubt always use less essential oil.  With aromatherapy, less is more.

Do not use essential oils in the eyes, close to the eyes, directly on the nose or close the nose, or in the anal or genital areas.

Discourage ingestion, but do not be concerned if the dog licks some of the formulation from its paws or fur.

*Please use dōTERRA® Essential Oils sparingly as you would on a baby.  If too much of the oils are used on the dog(s) it may cause seizures.

*NEVER put the oil directly on the dog unless stated. First put a couple of drops of oil on your hand and then let the dog take of whiff of the oil. Then apply the oil on your        hands, to the dog's affected body part.

*Never put oils into a dog’s ears unless directed.

*Never use essential oils on cats or kittens. Felines do not metabolize essential oils and they can be extremely toxic to their systems.
